Leverkusen Warn Boniface After Frustrated Walkout

Bayer Leverkusen have warned Nigerian striker Victor Boniface after he reportedly walked into the dressing room following his omission from their 4-3 Bundesliga win over Mainz.

Boniface was left on the bench as coach Carles Martínez made his final substitutions in the 84th minute. Frustrated by not getting the chance to play, the striker reportedly left his teammates instead of remaining on the bench.

The incident comes as Boniface struggles for playing time this season. He has made just one Bundesliga appearance, playing five minutes in Leverkusen’s opening-day defeat to SV Elversberg, where he provided an assist.

Coach Martínez said he had not noticed the incident during the match but would speak with the Nigerian forward. Sporting director Simon Rolfes also warned Boniface against repeating the action, while praising his improving fitness and professionalism.

With Christian Kofane recently injured, Boniface could have an opportunity to return to action. Leverkusen’s Europa League match against Lech Poznań on Thursday could give him a chance to prove himself and fight for more playing time.
