Lionel Messi Set to Become Sole Owner of Spanish Club Eldense

Lionel Messi is reportedly close to becoming the sole owner of Spanish football club CD Eldense after reaching an agreement in principle to buy 100 per cent of the club’s shares.

The deal, which could be announced in the coming days, would see the Barcelona legend take over the Alicante-based club. Eldense currently play in Spain’s second division and are still waiting for their first win of the season.

The Mayor of Elda, Ruben Alfaro, confirmed that an agreement in principle had been reached but said the deal still needs to be finalised. He welcomed Messi’s interest in the club and said the move would be significant for the city.

The takeover would also be another sign that Messi is preparing for life away from playing football. He already took full ownership of another Spanish club, UE Cornella, in April.

Messi’s lawyers have reportedly been negotiating with Eldense’s current owners for some time.

Eldense play their home matches at the Estadio Municipal Nuevo Pepico Amat, which has a capacity of 5,776.
