Manchester United wonderkid JJ Gabriel has asked to leave the club and become a free agent. The 15-year-old reportedly feels he was not given enough chances to train and play with the first team, including during pre-season and the Champions League.
Gabriel has attracted interest from several top clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, as well as clubs from the Premier League.
Manchester United are still trying to convince him to stay, but Gabriel is understood to have made up his mind. His registration can only be cancelled if the club, Gabriel and his parent or carer agree, although the Premier League can make a decision if they cannot reach an agreement.
The teenager impressed at youth level last season, scoring more than 20 goals for the U18s and winning the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award. He has also made a strong start this season, scoring a hat-trick in the UEFA Youth League and recording two goals and two assists in Premier League 2.
United manager Michael Carrick has called for the situation to be handled carefully, stressing that Gabriel is still only 15 and that his welfare should come first.
