15-year-old Manchester United academy star JJ Gabriel has reportedly asked the club to cancel his registration, which would allow him to leave and become a free agent.
Gabriel joined Manchester United at the age of 11 and has quickly become one of the most highly rated players in the academy.
Last season, he scored 26 goals in 29 games and won the club’s Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award.
He was also expected to be involved with the first team for the Carabao Cup match against Brighton, where he could have become Manchester United’s youngest-ever senior player.
The reason behind his decision to leave is not clear, but reports suggest there has been a breakdown in relations between his family and the club. Manchester United are still hopeful that the situation can be resolved.
Gabriel has attracted interest from several major clubs, including Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Losing him would be a major setback for United, especially as the club had been planning to fast-track him towards first-team football.
